Who is the most famous person in all of history? No doubt the answer to this question would vary from one part of the world to another. While Mohammed might be the most well-known in Muslim countries, or Gandhi in India or Confucius in China, there is large evidence pointing to Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, as the most well-known person throughout history. Quite incredibly, this itinerant evangelist from the tiny country of Israel on the fringe of the great Roman empire, with only a handful of followers, is now the most important and influential figure in all of history. Thinking of that baby born nearly 2,000 years ago in a stable and the impact of His life, I am drawn ever more to the conclusion that He was and is the Son of the living God.

With not nearly as much evidence as we have now, Peter came to the same conclusion. When Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” he declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” In that moment he spoke for all the disciples and for all who would follow Jesus.

However, 2,000 years later, there remain over three billion people who do not know who Jesus is. The Unreached People Groups of the world still live outside earshot of the good news, that Jesus is the Son of the living God, born of a virgin, who bled and died on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead so that they might be forgiven and have a place reserved in heaven for them.

Over the past eight months we’ve passed through an unprecedented time in modern history. All over the world people and economies have been locked down and locked in. At the same time, God has given His Church unprecedented opportunities for good works. For example, in India many people lost their jobs and the means to put food on the table. Some of these same people lost their homes due to cyclones, tornados, and flooding. ER partners reached out to them with food, and in some cases, with home repair. We have reached out online too.

One Hindu lady who listened in to a Zoom broadcast for women said, “Now I know who Jesus is!” As lockdowns are lifted, some of those who were helped are finding their way to the churches who helped them. Christ followers around the world have reached out with His love, and now many people are learning that indeed, Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
